Head & Neck Pain

At Rebalance Clinic, we offer a comprehensive approach to treating head and neck pain through a combination of manual therapies and supportive treatments.

What Is Head & Neck Pain?

The neck is a hugely mobile structure, supporting your head which is one seventh of your body weight. If you look around, many of us spend a lot of time looking down at computers, mobile phones, tablets which can lead to neck pain. It is also linked with stress, long hours at the desk, in the car, postural issues, as well as a result of a fall or car accident.

One common cause is tension headaches, which often result from muscle tightness in the neck and scalp due to stress or poor posture. Cervicogenic headaches, originating from neck problems like degenerative discs or joint issues, can also lead to pain in the head. Other sources of pain include whiplash, which is a neck injury caused by sudden force, and conditions like arthritis, which can cause inflammation in the joints of the neck.

In some cases, nerve compression in the neck, such as a pinched nerve, can lead to pain, tingling, or numbness that radiates to the head, shoulders, or arms. Treatment for head and neck pain typically involves a combination of rest, physiotherapy, posture correction, medication, and in some cases, specialised treatments like nerve blocks or injections.

What Are The Symptoms Of Head & Neck Pain?

Head and neck pain can present with a variety of symptoms, which may vary depending on the underlying cause. Common symptoms include:

  • Neck stiffness or soreness: Difficulty moving the neck or feeling tightness in the muscles.
  • Headaches: Often tension headaches or cervicogenic headaches, causing pain at the back of the head or sides.
  • Pain radiating to the shoulder or arms: Discomfort spreading from the neck to the upper body.
  • Tingling or numbness: A sensation of pins and needles or less of sensation, particularly if nerves are affected.
  • Jaw pain: In some cases, head and neck pain can be linked to jaw dysfunction for a proper diagnosis.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing/Treating Head & Neck Pain?

At Rebalance Clinic, we offer a comprehensive approach to treating head and neck pain through a combination of manual therapies and supportive treatments. Our primary treatment modalities include:

  • Osteopathy: A manual therapy that focuses on the interrelationship between the body’s structure and function. Osteopathic treatments at Rebalance Clinic may involve direct and rhythmic movement techniques, muscle strengthening and stretching, soft and connective tissue techniques, neuromuscular therapy, joint manipulation and medical acupuncture. These interventions aim to alleviate pain, improve mobility and promote overall musculoskeletal health.
  • Osteo Sports Massage: An enhanced massage treatment that combines the dynamic benefits of osteopathy with deep tissue and neuromuscular techniques. This therapy is designed to address muscle tension, improve circulation and support the healing of soft tissues, contributing to pain relief and increased mobility in the head and neck regions.
  • Laser Therapy: Utilises advanced technology to provide drug-free pain relief. Laser therapy produces therapeutic effects such as reduced pain, improved circulation, accelerated healing and decreased inflammation and swelling – all of which are beneficial.

In addition to these primary treatments, Rebalance Clinic also offers Pilates and Yoga classes, which can complement therapeutic interventions by enhancing flexibility, strengthening supporting musculature and improving posture, thereby reducing strain on the head and neck.
