Some people come in with elbow pain, and they’ll have tennis elbow - even if they don’t play tennis.

They can experience pain during any kind of motion that affects the top of their arm. The medical name for this is lateral epicondylitis.

This pain at the top of the arm is often caused by pulling something or due to extra inflammation. What we do is assess the source of the pain – whether it’s coming from the muscle or higher up where it could be a nerve issue.

Tennis elbow is typically caused by overuse or repetitive motions that strain the forearm muscles and tendons. Common culprits include gripping, twisting, or lifting actions, which can create small tears in the tendon that attaches to the outer elbow. Everyday tasks like typing, gardening, or using tools such as screwdrivers and hammers can also trigger the condition. Even poor posture or weak supporting muscles in the shoulder and wrist can contribute to excessive strain on the tendons. It’s not just about playing sports; many people develop tennis elbow simply from repeating movements over time, often without realizing the impact on their arm.

What are the symptoms of Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow is characterized by pain and tenderness on the outer part of the elbow. This pain often radiates down the forearm and can worsen during activities involving gripping, lifting, or twisting motions, such as shaking hands, turning a doorknob, or holding a coffee mug.

The discomfort typically develops gradually and may start as a mild ache, intensifying over time. In severe cases, even light activities like holding a pen or typing can trigger pain. Stiffness in the elbow, especially in the morning, and weakness in grip strength are common.

The affected area may also feel warm or swollen, although visible inflammation is rare. Symptoms can be aggravated by repetitive or strenuous use of the arm. If left untreated, tennis elbow can persist for months, significantly impacting daily activities and quality of life, making early intervention essential for relief and recovery.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Tennis Elbow?

Once we figure out what’s causing your pain, we focus on targeting the root cause rather than merely addressing the symptoms.

If it is tennis elbow, we work on the muscles at the top of the forearm. We loosen up the muscles and address trigger points. We use different techniques, such as electrical muscle stimulation, myofascial release, scraping with metal tools (which sounds painful but doesn’t have to be), and even cupping therapy. These methods not only address the pain but also improve blood flow, reduce tension in the area, and promote the body’s natural healing processes. This comprehensive approach ensures that we address both the discomfort and the underlying problem causing it.

We have an arsenal of tools to help loosen up the affected area. By incorporating stretches and targeting trigger points, the muscle feels better, inflammation decreases, and the body begins to heal itself. Additionally, we provide education on ergonomics, posture, and activity modifications to prevent the condition from recurring. This empowers our patients to take control of their recovery and maintain long-term results.

This allows people to return to their everyday activities – whether it’s typing at a computer, which might have caused the issue, or even playing tennis. With consistent care and proper follow-up, many of our patients experience a renewed sense of confidence in their movement and daily tasks.

People are able to enjoy their normal life again once they have undergone treatment with us. They no longer have to worry about pain interfering with their hobbies or responsibilities, giving them the freedom to focus on what matters most.
